Academic citations, add files without the full text, better export and more

This release brings three new features to Anara to make your research workflows faster.

You can now set your preferred citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) for chat responses. Anara will format your citations and generate reference lists automatically, and you can click "open as note" to edit while keeping everything properly formatted.

We made it so you can add files to your library when you don't have access to the full text. For example, when you import via DOI and the item is behind a paywall it gets added to your library with the abstract and metadata. A new status column shows what content is available for each item in your collection, helping you maintain a complete reference library regardless of text availability.

Select any items in the library table view and export as BibTeX, CSV, or LaTeX files, or download PDFs directly. This makes it easy to integrate Anara with any existing citation and research tools.

Improvements

  • Removed the auto-join via email domain setting from account configuration options to simplify the workspace setup process.
  • Reference data for imported files now loads much faster, so you spend less time waiting when working with documents.
  • Improved drag-and-drop reliability in the left sidebar for smoother organization of your folders, with clearer visual feedback and better prevention of accidental drops.
  • Video citations now jump directly to the referenced timestamp when opened in the popover, pausing at the exact moment instead of playing automatically.
  • Added a new 'Visibility' column to the table that shows whether items are Private, Team, or Shared, making it easier to understand access levels at a glance.
  • You now start with the system color theme by default, automatically matching your device's light or dark mode preference.
  • Added support for M4A audio files, resolving previous issues with uploading and processing this format.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where selection menus could appear twice, ensuring a cleaner and more predictable interface when making selections.
  • Fixed presence indicators to respond properly to hovering over the entire circle area, with the correct pointer cursor displayed.
  • Fixed an issue where users who cancelled their subscription could lose access to edit their files and folders before the end of their billing period.
  • Fixed an issue where some files were not displaying in the table view on Firefox browsers.
  • Fixed an error that occurred when citing papers that use author strings instead of structured author data, ensuring citations work correctly for all paper formats.
  • Fixed an issue where pasted highlighted text in Notes would incorrectly change to yellow instead of preserving its original color.
  • Fixed an issue where Mendeley import was failing in some cases when fetching references by DOI, ensuring more reliable import of academic papers from Mendeley.
  • Fixed an issue where dark mode wasn't applying correctly to certain PDFs, ensuring a consistent viewing experience across all documents.
